• Colored by smoke, not dye or stain — this placemat’s rich brown tone comes from a traditional smoke-curing technique by artisans in Lombok, Indonesia. The set includes six round placemats, each with its own unique shade and pattern. The designer look, for less.
• Each placemat measures 13 inches across and 0.2 inch thick — fitting a standard 10-11 inch dinner plate with about an inch of rattan visible around the rim.
• Placemats, trivets, and more — rattan is naturally heat-resistant and can handle hot dishes. Beyond the table, use them as plant bases, centerpiece foundations, or textured wall accents for a coastal boho look.
• You’ll notice a campfire-like scent when you open the box — it’s from the smoke cure, and it’s strongest when the mats are first unwrapped. Most people find it fades within 1-2 weeks. If you’re sensitive to scent, air them outdoors for a few days. We also make a stained brown version with no smoke scent.
• Gets better with age — after months of use, the rattan will develop a richer, deeper patina that adds character for years to come. Wipe clean with a damp cloth for daily maintenance. For occasional spills, rinse briefly and air-dry thoroughly in a well-ventilated area before storing.
